Reflections on Women who Defied Social Norms: an historical perspective Profiles in Leadership, Courage, and Perseverance
Presenter: Kathy Clevenger-Burdell, MA, BA
Scottsdale BPW member Kathy Clevenger-Burdell, MA, BA will lead an interactive discussion on March 15th to honor Women's History Month. Kathy has over 20 years experience in health education and health services administration and often reports on legislation affecting women. PLEASE JOIN US for a lively dialogue.
A glance of women who have come before us and some present who choose or feel compelled to follow a path that puts them outside the accepted social norms. Who influenced these women? What motivated them to be high achievers or take a different path?
Introductory remarks will be followed by an interactive facilitated discussion. How are women being taught to be independent thinkers in 2023? What are the differences between Education and Brainwashing? Do women have the "ego strength" to operate outside of social norms? Do social norms change with different times in history? How important is family support or approval? What will our world look like 20, 50, 100 years down the road? What are the social norms for young women today? How do we prepare future generations for a world where technology may become a "supreme ruler" (e.g., artificial intelligence, computers lined to our homes, phones, cars, watches)?
